German 4 England 1

Germany crushed England, 4-1, in the round of 16 in Bloemfontein this afternoon, adding Fabio Capello’s team to a World Cup roll of dishonor that includes Italy and France.

Miroslav Klose sounded the alarm in the 20th minute when he latched on to keeper Manuel Neuer’s long goal kick to breach the England defense and fire past David James. Thirteen minutes later, Lukas Podolski capped a fine move by Klose and Thomas Muller to shoot through the legs of James. England rallied briefly — Matthew Upson headed past Neuer in the the 37th minute and the English were denied a clear equalizer when Frank Lampard’s shot crashed off the underside of the crossbar and over the line.

Any English hopes of a rally were destroyed in the second half by a composed and poised German team that absorbed English pressure and attacked on the break. Muller scored twice in the 66th and 70th minutes to complete the rout.

Next, german will meet argentina for quater final.

german over ghana....congratulations!!!!

Germany beat Ghana 1-0 after a second-half goal from Mesut Oezil to win Group D and set up a second-round World Cup clash with traditional rival England.

Ghana also advanced despite Wednesday's loss at Soccer City and became the first African team to make the round of 16 at the first World Cup held on the continent.

"It was a tense game. We could have made more out of our opportunities," Germany coach Joachim Loew said. "We were not very precise up front. But I can't blame my young players, there was a lot of pressure, we had to win. And now we are really looking forward to England

germany 4 australia 0

Germany honored its status as favorites to win Group D with an electric performance at Durban Stadium, in Durban. The defensive-minded Aussies, the oldest team in the tournament, were shelled by the German attack, which ran roughshod all evening. Lukas Podolski started the scoring with a powerful goal in the eighth minute. Miroslav Klose knocked in his 11th career World Cup goal in the 26th minute. Australian midfielder Tim Cahill was shown red in the 56th minute and, as expected, things got no better for the Socceroos. Thomas Muller added a third goal in the 67th minute and Cacau scored in the 70th, two minutes after coming on as a substitute.
